Kim Painter Chesney

Kim brings commitment, enthusiasm and energy to everything to which she jumps on board. As an artist, she has studied art around the world and in multiple mediums including oil, watercolor, graphite and encaustic.  Currently, she is immersed in developing her own brand of encaustic and mixed media. The encaustic (encaustic means to burn in) process is an ancient technique known to have been used prior to 100 A.D. by the Greeks and the Romans.

Kim covers her substrate with an assortment of beautiful parchments made from around the world.  Creating the sculpted surface takes patience and precision. Kim  manipulates the wax by moving the canvas or board while torching  the wax simultaniously.  The result  is an exquisitly unique and rare piece of art.

Showing her work since 2008, Kim has gained recognition and won awards for her art which hang in a number of private collections that stretch from Singapore to Chicago. She has been featured in several local publications and on morning shows. Kim has studied with acclaimed artists/instructors, among them, Marc Chatov, Jerry Fresia, Joe Paquet, James Richards, Donna Thomas and Terry Miura.

Born with the name of Painter, Kim Painter Chesney was destined to become an artist. With years of working, child-rearing and fund-raising for child-related nonprofit organizations, there is no task too big for Kim to tackle. Her biggest joy to date is being a match for a bone marrow harvest, saving the life of a gentleman with leukemia. Kim’s creative juices are always flowing, from developing a culinary arts program for impoverished kids to donating art to charities and designing and running fundraising events that are wildly successful.

Kim's current work on a major series of encaustic - mixed media entitled "Neutrality" is new for 2016.  The  beauty of this series is drawn from its soft hues, texture and suggestivity.  The drama and flair from each piece is decisively one of a kind.
